Monday, 2/11, is the WCSD Board meeting at WJHS at 7:30. They will be discussing the budget, hopefully with modified lacrosse included. Gregg Ninos and his family will speak to the Board and let them know what an amazing opportunity this is. We would love to have everyone there wearing their Wapp Lax gear. Please join us to show your support, and, feel free to comment to the Board as well during the public comment period- there is always strength in numbers!
If you have not done so already, please copy and send the message below to all of the Board members we have listed. They need to hear from all of us. Also, share the message on Facebook, twitter, and every social media site you can think of. The more pressure we can put on the Board, the better our chances are. If you want to see your child playing for their schools in 7th and 8th grades, please make every effort to attend this meeting and send letter so the school board. If you have questions or would like to help organize us getting on the budget, please contact Gregg Ninos - gninos71@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your continued support.

I am writing you today to show my support for the WCSD Board adding boys and girls modified lacrosse at Van Wyck and Wappingers Junior High Schools.
The WCSD is one of the only districts in Section 1 without modified lacrosse. This puts our Varsity programs at a distinct disadvantage. While other districts have 6 years to develop their varsity players, Wappingers Lacrosse only has 4 years to develop the skills and cohesion that are necessary to play at the highest level. As such, we are 50% behind our league opponents. Our Varsity coaches do an amazing job playing catch up, but imagine our success if they could start on an even playing field.
Though there is a town recreational league for 7th and 8th graders, not all students can afford to play in it. In fact, the town team can’t find other teams to play as most schools in our area have transitioned to fielding modified school teams. Modified lacrosse would provide equity and opportunity for all students in our district. Similarly, if the District moves girls soccer to the fall and aligns with the rest of NYSPHSAA, modified lacrosse would provide an outlet and opportunity for kids to play another sport in the spring, allowing them to wear their school jerseys with pride.
The costs associated with adding modified lacrosse for boys and girls would be minimal. The high school teams have old uniforms that can be re-purposed and equipment can be subsidized by the high school Booster Clubs and the youth league. The spring season for modified sports is very short, and transportation and coaching costs would be modest.
Adding boys and girls modified lacrosse is an inexpensive way to provide equity for all. Our Varsity teams will benefit and give students more opportunities to play at the college level. More importantly, it will provide a great opportunity for our middle school students to participate in healthy school activities and a sense of belonging to their school.
